Privacy Policy

How we handle your data under GDPR for LearnTheJS.

Last updated: 10 Dec 2025

This Privacy Policy explains how LearnTheJS ("we", "us", "our") processes personal data when you use the platform available at learnthejs.com (the "Platform"). It applies to users in the European Union/EEA and is intended to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This page is for information only and must be adapted to your actual data flows, third-party services, and internal policies.

1. Data Controller

The data controller is the owner of LearnTheJS. You can reach us at cnnsyhnx@gmail.com. If we appoint a Data Protection Officer (DPO) or EU representative, their contact details will be published here.

2. Data We Collect

  • Account and contact data: name, email, authentication identifiers.
  • Learning activity: lesson progress, attempts, streaks, saved code, and preferences.
  • Usage and device data: IP address, device/browser info, timestamps, referrers, and in-app interactions.
  • Cookies and similar tech: session cookies, preference cookies, analytics/measurement cookies (only with consent where required), and optionally marketing cookies if you opt in.
  • Payments: processed by third-party providers; payment card data is handled by the provider and not stored by us.

3. Purposes and Legal Bases (GDPR)

  • Provide and operate the Platform: account creation, lesson delivery, and support (contract necessity, GDPR 6(1)(b)).
  • Security and fraud prevention: protecting accounts, preventing abuse (legitimate interest, 6(1)(f); or legal obligation, 6(1)(c) when applicable).
  • Analytics and service improvement: understanding performance and usage to enhance the Platform (consent via cookies where required; otherwise legitimate interest, 6(1)(f)).
  • Payments and billing: processing transactions and invoices (contract necessity, 6(1)(b); legal obligations, 6(1)(c)).
  • Communications and updates: responding to inquiries, essential service emails (contract necessity or legitimate interest). Marketing emails are sent only with your consent (6(1)(a)); you can withdraw consent at any time.

4. Cookies and Consent

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure performance, and—if you allow—support marketing. Where required by law, we obtain your consent through a cookie banner and provide a "Cookie Settings" link to update choices at any time. Denying non-essential cookies will not affect core functionality but may impact analytics or personalization features.

5. Sharing and Processors

We share personal data only with service providers that help us run the Platform (for example hosting, authentication, analytics, email delivery, payments). These providers act as processors under agreements that include GDPR safeguards. We may also share data with authorities when legally required.

6. International Transfers

If personal data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, we use appropriate safeguards such as EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and, where needed, additional technical measures. You can request a copy of relevant safeguards at cnnsyhnx@gmail.com.

7. Retention

We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes described above:

  • Account data: for the life of the account or until deletion is requested.
  • Payment/billing records: retained as required by tax and accounting laws.
  • Logs and security data: kept for a limited period needed for security and auditing, then deleted or anonymized.

8. Your Rights

Under GDPR, you may have the rights to access, rectification, erasure, restrict processing, data portability, and objection (including to profiling where applicable). Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting prior lawful processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

To exercise your rights, contact cnnsyhnx@gmail.com. We may need to verify your identity to respond.

9. Security

We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures such as encryption in transit, access controls, and regular monitoring to protect personal data. However, no system is completely secure; users should also maintain strong, unique passwords and protect their devices.

10. Children

The Platform is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided data, please contact us to delete it.

11. Responsibility and Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LearnTheJS is not responsible for:

  • Errors or omissions in educational content or code examples; you remain responsible for testing before production use.
  • Third-party services' availability, security, or practices (including payment, authentication, analytics providers).
  • Losses arising from misuse of the Platform, non-compliance with your own security obligations, or failures beyond our reasonable control.

Mandatory rights and remedies under applicable law remain unaffected.

12. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. We will revise the "Last updated" date and, when appropriate, provide additional notice.

13. Contact

For privacy questions or requests, contact cnnsyhnx@gmail.com. Please include enough detail for us to identify your account and respond.
